Love feels like

I remembered dc Talk was my music growing up from the later years of my primary school days to university days especially with Jesus Freak and Supernatural.

Of course I was sad when dc Talk decided to go on an intermission and went solo. I felt that the solos albums were not as great as three of them together. I might have felt that as a form of loss of a good band, just like how I felt about Shannen Doherty when she left Charmed and she was replaced by Rose McGowan and it wasn’t just the same. Yes, you can say that I don’t change as fast as some people. Hahahaha.

To see them reunited through TobyMac’s album in “This is Not a Test” was a fangirl moment in me. TobyMac and Michael Tait has not aged and look still good in their 50s. Can’t say the same for Kevin Max, but I love his vocals more after listening to “Love Feels Like”. I used to love Michael Tait’s voice because it is calming but Kevin Max’s voice has this haunting quality, especially the vibrato parts. Both TobyMac and Tait were still jumping around and engaging with each other like in the 90s, but Kevin Max seems distanced, but time do change people.

Song wise, it’s sounded like a matured version of dc Talk song. It was as though they did not go their own ways. As for the lyrics, it was just quite plain. I miss their honest, semi-poetic lyrics which defies the church-type of lyrics which I remember it did cause some discussion among my Christian group of friends. Was it right to even put the word freak after the word “Jesus”?

When I was in my teens, I was conflicted but close to 20 years later, I realised that I have to understand the context of the word ‘freak’ in the 1990s to understand what they were reaching out too, and what it really meant? Words play a big part, and depending on location, sometimes words can be reinterpreted differently.

Anyway, will end this post with the lyrics:

I am tired, I am drained
But the fight in me remains
I am weary, I am worn
Like I’ve never been before

This is harder than I thought
Harder than I thought it’d be
Harder than I thought
Takin’ every part of me
Harder than I thought
So much harder than I thought it’d be
But empty’s never felt so full

This is what love (this is what love)
This is what love
Feels like
This is what love (this is what love)
This is what love
Feels like
Poured out, used up, still givin’,
stretching me out to the end of my limits
This is what love (this is what love)
This is what real love
Feels like
This is what love feels like poured out,
used up still willin’ to fight for it
This is what love feels like
Yeah, this is what it feels like

Like floating confetti
The beautiful gets messy
When the fall out finds the floor
But in the depths of the trenches
Is the richest of riches
Love is calling us to more

This is what love (this is what love)
This is what love
Feels like
This is what love (this is what love)
This is what love
Feels like
Poured out, used up, still givin’,
stretching me out to the end of my limits
This is what love (this is what love)
This is what real love
Feels like
This is what love feels like poured out,
used up still willin’ to fight for it
This is what love feels like
Yeah, this is what it feels like

And now these three remain
Faith, hope and love
But the greatest of these is love

It’s worth everything you put in
Everything you put in…
Love
This is what it feels like

Poured out, used up, still givin’,
stretching me out to the end of my limits

This is what love (this is what love)
Feels like
This is what love (this is what love)
This is what love
Feels like
This is what love (this is what love)
Feels like
This is what love (this is what love)
This is what love
Feels like

This is what love (this is what love)
Feels like

Poured out, used up, still givin’,
Poured out, used up, still givin’,
Poured out, used up, still givin’,
stretching me out to the end of my limits
